Our aim is to raise awareness about the plight of stray, homeless, abandoned and feral cats in Ireland and promote trap, neuter & return (TNR) as a humane effective solution.
We volunteer our time and petrol money to help feral cats. We ask for a donation of €55 for a male and €65 for a female which is less than half the normal veterinary rate for neutering/spaying. Every donation helps us help more stray/feral cats and kittens. Please donate what you can here.
ATF (Animal Trust Fund) are very much involved in TNR, which means trap neuter return of feral/stray cats. We get numerous calls from the public asking for our help as Dublin and all of Ireland is full of stray/feral homeless cats – all descended from once owned domesticated cats but through neglect and abandonment have ended up on the streets. These cats have no alternative but to return to their wild instincts and fend for themselves. They breed at a rapid rate as they are unneutered. It is estimated that there are 350 thousand feral/stray cats on the streets of Dublin alone.
A lot of kind people feel sorry for these stray/feral cats and feed them but are unable either financially or physically to catch them and get them neutered so that’s were the ATF helps. Our volunteers with the aid of a cat trap, humanly trap the cat and transport it to the vet where they are neutered, health checked and receive flea and worm treatment. They are then returned to where they were found within 48 hours to happily live out their lives, but do not multiply.
We also, when possible, remove kittens from living strays and place them in foster care until they are ready to be re-homed as pets. It is possible to tame feral kittens if caught young enough and they make great pets. Sadly due to very few foster homes we can’t always manage to rescue every kitten as every kitten season every animal rescuer and rescue centre are filled to capacity but we do what we can.
